The Supremacy Clause of the United States Constitution (Article VI, section 2)

“State law should trump federal law”

That’s what was written at Resolute Determination .

We are still ONE COUNTRY, aren’t we?  The only way to assure that people are treated the same, no matter what state they live in, is through FEDERAL LAWS.  If State Law trumped Federal law, we’d probably still have slavery in some States.  That is exactly why marriage can’t just be left up to the States.  A marriage legal in one State should be legal in another.  A child adopted in one State should also be someone’s child in another State.  A will written in one State should still apply once moving to another State.  We simply cannot give States the authority to trump Federal law.

The Supremacy Clause states that the Laws of the United States are the supreme Law of the Land.  To me that means that no State laws should ever trump federal laws – can you imagine what a mess it would be if we had totally different laws IN ALL ASPECTS OF LAW in all the States?
